Roma Arte in Nuvola 2024

In the futuristic and disturbing exhibition venue of Centro Congressi Roma La Nuvola designed by Massimiliano Fuksas, the fourth edition of Roma Arte in Nuvola is taking shape, directed by Alessandro Nicosia, produced by C.O.R. Creare Organizzare Realizzare with the artistic direction of Adriana Polveroni and promoted with Eur S.p.A. The event counts of over one hundred and forty national and international galleries, alternating their imprints with important institutional interventions aimed at the protection, research and valorization of the modern and contemporary arts.

A tribute to the great Roman school of the mid-20th century with the Forma 1 movement – artists like Carla Accardi, Pietro Consagra, Giulio Turcato – the School of Piazza del Popolo and pop trends – Mario Schifano, Giosetta Fioroni, Pino Pascali – up to the school of San Lorenzo in the 80s – Giuseppe Gallo, Bruno Ceccobelli, Giovanni Dessì, Nunzio, is at the center of the attention by historicized Galleries such as Tornabuoni. This is accompanied by the revisitation of an imperial and classicist culture specifically linked to sculptural, plastic and landscape culture, as highlighted by the Banca Ifis project which presents twelve neoclassical busts by the neoclassical sculptor Antonio Canova to speak again of mythology and representation in the contemporary.

A Mediterranean gaze accompanies the rest of the exhibition. First, it focuses on the research of artists such as the veristic and neo-impressionist painter Giuseppe De Nittis in a historical continuity with the anthropomorphic and scenographic works of Pino Pascali. The momentum becomes international with the section dedicated to the host country, Portugal, which presents the works of Adriana Proganó, Ana Santos, Bárbara Bulhão, Carlos Correia, Carlos Noronha Feio, Didier Fiuza Faustino, Eugénia Mussa, Fernão Cruz, Miguel Ângelo Rocha, Tiago Baptista, in a section curated by Sandra Vieira Jürgens, who between playful moments and minimalist research, suggests a new radiance.

On the second floor of the fair, there is a line of experimental and innovative research carried out by avant-garde galleries attentive to emerging and mid-career artists. This is the case, for example, of the works by Matteo Basilè, for NM Contemporary, and by Giovanni Bongiovanni, for the Galleria 1/9 unosunove.

Numerous special initiatives have been conceived by the museums and institutions of Rome. Of philological importance are the tribute exhibitions dedicated to Pietro Consagra (Pietro Consagra’s studio as a performance of a lifetime), Piero Guccione (The dreamed city) and to the Vedovamazzei duo, celebrating the awarding of the Premio Giovane Italia, 2000, in a new context and in a retrospective key, contributing overall to valorizing artistic research between the context and international visibility.

Antonio Canova, busts of: Paolina Borghese, Carolina Murat, Elisa Baciocchi Bonaparte, Letizia Ramolino Bonaparte, Venus Italica, Clio, Calliope, Erato, Terpsichore, Peace, Hebe, Rome, ph. Marino Festuccia, Banca Ifis collection, Arte in Nuvola 2024

Added to this there are the photographic works chosen for the exhibition The Game of Identities, which presents an interesting reading on the theme of increasingly hybrid subjectivities in contemporary times. Other significant interventions carried out by institutions include the Tapa project, by the Museo della Civiltà di Roma, inspired by oceanic cultures, the site-specific presentation of the works Casa senza titolo by Sislej Xhafa and Climbing by Vedovamazzei, as well as the presentation of the paintings by Giuseppe Modica for the PAC, and the photographic and film exhibition conceived by the MIC, for the General Directorate Contemporary Creativity. Finally, the photographic and film visual research conducted by the artist Quayola to celebrate the centenary of the Istituto Luce and in terms of futuristic and innovative contribution.
